ArtSpot Miami International Art Fair is an important contemporary art fair created in 2012 by Aldo Castillo, renowned curator and gallery owner. This fair is held every year as part of SPECTRUM Miami Art Fair. At the event, international galleries, art groups and art projects participate, and express themselves through sculpture, painting, photography, installations and works on paper (ArtSpotMiami, 2015).
One of the international galleries that participates as a main partner of the event, is Aldo Castillo Gallery. This gallery exhibits works of modern and contemporary visual artists from around the world. It was “established in Chicago in 1993, after, it moved to Miromar Design Center in Florida” (Aldo Castillo Gallery, 2015). It is one of the most important galleries in the area and usually works with private collectors, museums and design professionals.
Since 2015, Aldo Castillo Gallery has been presented in this event the work of contemporary Cuban artists who participated in the Twelfth Biennial of Havana. These artists are Octavio Irving Hernández, Julio Neira Emilio Milian, Carlos Reyna, Yovani Bauta, Antonio Guerrero, Fredy Villamil and Ernesto Capdevila. The gallery has displayed works in ceramics, glass, metal and paper. Its special project is entitled “Art Travels: Cuba”.
Works by Octavio Irving have been exhibited at the event, the piece entitled Incluso sin querer ser autorreferencial created in 2015 is one of them. This work has also been presented in February 2016 at the Art Basel Miami Week.
The next edition of ArtSpot will take place between November 30 and December 4 this year at the Miami Arts & Entertainment District.
