The Experimental Graphic Workshop of Havana (TEGH) on 22 March received a special visit. As a prelude, a group of US congressmen spoke with several artists of the TEGH on Monday 21.
On Tuesday 22, the Obama family (his mother, Michele, Malia and Natasha) shared with Cuban artists about their works, experiences and exchanges with American artists. During the visit, Octavio Irving also presented the ongoing projects of the workshop and seven Cuban graphic artists who are part of that creative space.
They (Octavio Irving, Carlos del Toro, Angel Rivero “Andy”, Isolina Limonta, José Omar Torres, Yamilis Brito, Max Delgado and Orlando Montalvan) exhibited some engraving made with different techniques showing the diversity of its graphic aesthetics.
In this context and on behalf of the workshop, Octavio Irving gave to Michele Obama a folder prepared in 2015 in tribute to the singer and songwriter Sara Gonzalez, a series of engravings of thirty Cuban artists, including national awards and several lithographs by Victor Manuel, one of the most representative painter of Cuba.
Meanwhile, Michelle Obama on behalf of his family, offered a detail with the stamp of the White House and her firm, and she wrote warm words of thanks to the workshop.
According to the Cuban artists who were present, this was a very successful visit.
